During his rule, people followed their religion rigorously. He donated lands, money, ornaments and other precious gems to Brahmins. King Dharmagupta conducted 'Yagyas' to appease Indra and other gods. He ruled over the state piously and practised by laying down policies with 'Dharmashastra'. Dharmagupta took over the throne as his father went to the forest.
Nanda gave the responsibility of protecting the state to his son and went to the forest to indulge in austerity. In the Chandra dynasty, there was a famous Maharaja named Nanda, who was a religious person.
